When these words were written, carpenters in Louisville worked from sunup to sunset for $1.25 per day. In 1868 the union solicited funds from Merchants on Louisville to purchase a bell to be placed in the Court House yard which was rung at 6:00 AM and again at 6:00 PM to denote starting and quitting time. We've come a long way since our beginning. Today Local 64 is a vibrant and active Local Union. Our members are active not only in their union but in their churches, little leagues and many other community and civic organizations and we still subscribe to the original tenants set forth by our founders. |
Louisville area Membership Action Committee (MAC) meetings are held at Local 64's offices on the third Monday of each month @ 4:30 PM. A light dinner is provided for those who attend. Membership action and participation is essential to the success of our union and each member is responsible for doing his or her part to advance our union. |
