It’s a well known fact that in our business the strong and most productive survive hard times. The others go to work non-Union or for the city. Unfortunately some cant work anywhere. After surviving a 2 year draught, 2006 provided our area a lot of opportunities. Opportunities for us to grow individually and collectively. Individually increasing our skills and knowledge of our trade, learning tolerance for those and things out of our control and most of all being involved in our surroundings with life's challenges that we can make better or us a better individual. Collectively building relationships with fellow workers, contractors, politicians and company owners that could make us all more successful.
2007 looks to be another successful and promising year. Lets strive to be more productive by helping the partner next to us whose skills aren't as great as yours, instead of making him look bad. Instead of complaining figure out solutions to make things better. We all joined this Union to better our lives and retire with dignity. I would like to challenge you all to treat the others around you the way you want to be treated and consider how can I be more productive. A success for one is a success for all.

Delegate to the Council
Definition of delegate: a person authorized or sent to speak and act for others; representative, as at a convention
We need volunteers for the Mentoring Program!
Definition of mentor: a wise, loyal adviser, a teacher or coach
To be a mentor would be a very important role to the union (you are the union) and the new member. Mentors make new members feel informed and important. Mentors use check-lists and scheduled calls to connect with each new member. A couple of examples would be to have contact at a monthly union meeting or a M.A.C. (membership action committee) meeting. To become a mentor simply notify the local.
