Local #859 was chartered on November 1, 1986 as a result of restructuring. Locals from Crawfordsville, Covington, Lebanon, Montezuma and Greencastle were combined to form a new local in Greencastle. The local has had several locations in the past and is now the proud owner of an office and meeting hall on the courthouse square in Greencastle. We recently did some major renovations to this building including a new rubber roof and grinding out and re-tuck pointing the brick and stone on the front and side of the building. Our membership stands at roughly 210 and is growing. Our membership includes approximately 25 apprentices who learn the trade at either the Terre Haute or Indianapolis campus.
Local #859 covers the counties of Boone, Hendricks, Montgomery and Putnam. This area includes the towns of Avon, Danville, Brownsburg, Plainfield, Zionsville, Lebanon, Crawfordsville and Greencastle to name a few.
Our M.A.C. members have done several community projects including work days at Hope’s Way Children’s Retreat, building shelters in the Big Walnut Sports Park, repairing two of those shelters after storms dropped trees on them, assembling new benches for the downtown area, as well as lending a helping hand to several local charitable causes. M.A.C. members also help our labor friendly candidates by phone banking, going door to door and working the polls on Election Day. We are also currently the holder of the Traveling Trophy which we won during a golf challenge this fall. We donated the proceeds of his event, over $700, to the Putnam County Shriner’s Club to benefit their area youth programs.
